Bathing As a Means to Relax Easily

In a world where everyone is on the go, where deadlines were supposed to be met yesterday, and the stresses of everyday life are often overbearing, it’s important to take time at the end of each day to relax and rejuvenate. Studies have shown that just by eating a well-balanced diet and by exercising regularly, one can reduce the negative side-effects of stress. However, eating well and exercising don’t always alleviate tension and anxiety. Additionally, at the end of a long day, not too many people have the energy to go running to a gym. Most people however, do have the energy to soak in a bathtub as a means to relax easily.

French chemist René Maurice Gattefoss made an amazing discovery in the 1920s after a fortuitous accident in his perfume laboratory. He accidentally set his arm on fire and quickly thrust it into the nearest cold liquid, a container of lavender oil. He noticed immediate and surprising pain relief, and his wound healed with minimal discomfort and without a trace of a scar. It was noted later that lavender is not only an excellent oil that soothes and sterilizes minor cuts and burns, but that it can also be used to calm and relax the body and to alleviate headaches and migraines. Therefore, soaking in a bathtub perfumed by bath salts, bath oils or tub teas with essential lavender oils helps one to relax easily and to sooth headaches caused by tension.

Since the times of the Roman Empire, people have delighted in taking hot soothing baths as a means to relax easily. In addition to the health benefits of lavender, one can also relax easily in a bath with other soothing and natural scents. The sweet smells of jasmine and rosemary, for example, have proven to increase a person’s overall mental state of well-being. To further release tension and loosen tight muscles add Dead Sea salts into a bath. Dead Sea salts contain important minerals found in the Dead Sea such as magnesium, which reduces inflammation. As you bathe, your body will absorb these minerals to rejuvenate your skin and reinvigorate your muscles, and the hot water of the bath will relax your entire body.

Bathing in a bath steeped with natural fragrances is a wonderful way to relax; it refreshes your skin, your body and your spirit. As a daily indulgence or a weekly treat, making time for a bath will help you to understand what it truly means to relax easily.
