This fall, runway models are sporting bold colors that make striking statements. Off the runway, makeup artists are recommending that women who want to take advantage of the eye makeup trends for fall 2007 trade in their neutral shades for bursts of color. From muted greens to plums and navy, deep colors are among the most popular and recommended eye makeup trends for fall. While shades of brown will always be in style, those who dare to be bold will love the new palate of colors available at makeup counters this season.
Before applying colored eye shadow it’s best to apply a neutral shadow as a base, such as light brown or creamy ivory, that sweeps from the eyelids to the bone of eyebrow. For those who shy away from too much color, a colored eye shadow can be subtlety used as an eyeliner- just add a touch of color by applying a thin line of shadow against the lash line. Other eye makeup trends for the fall include the “smoky” affect. Reminiscent of the roaring 1920s, but with more sophistication and sex appeal, the smoky look makes eyes stand out dramatically. Smoky eyes are created by using chocolate brown, charcoal grey, bronze, or soft black powder eye shadow, black mascara, and a neutral bone or taupe shadow as a base. To create the affect simply apply a base of neutral eye shadow and add a coat of dark eye shadow to the base of the upper lashes with an eyeliner brush. Pass the brush along the length of the eyelashes as well. As a finishing touch, gently smudge the liner upward to the crease of the lid and apply mascara to the top eye lashes. The smoky affect creates the same bold fall look, but without the color.
While eye makeup trends for fall indicate that bold is in, this doesn’t reflect the makeup trends for the other part of the face. Experts agree that too much of a good thing isn’t good and suggest using soft colors for the rest of the face. Classic black or dark brown mascara, as well as a blush that is just a touch darker than the skin and soft pink or muted beige lipstick and lip gloss will work well to compliment colored eye shadow instead of drawing attention away from it. After all, with such striking eyes it would be a shame to steal attention away from them.
